I started running the club in 1978 and am the Club’s Co-ordinator recruiting and supporting volunteers to run the Junior Youth Club on a Friday night. In that time I have been a member of Reading Council and a school governor at two Tilehurst schools and helped train people to do youth work. I enjoy seeing the club full of children enjoying themselves and working with a brilliant group of volunteers and it’s always lovely to see members from the earlier days bring their own children to the club. In my leisure time I enjoy cycling, walking the dogs, camping and listening to a certain brand of Irish pop music.
Hi I’m Zala and I have been a volunteer at the Tilehurst Junior Youth Club since 2006. I came up one night with my daughter and was asked if I wanted to stay. I did stay and enjoyed it so much that I’m still here. As a big kid myself, I enjoy all the activities that take place on club nights. My key responsibilities are arts and crafts, cooking, first aid and organising social evenings.
I have been volunteering at the club now for many years and started when my own children attended the club. I have been on the committee and now a Friday Night volunteer. I like playing games and helping children be included – girls and boys, I believe I have a friendly, silly and fun nature. It’s great to see the shy children flourish.
Hello I’m Kim. I have been a volunteer at the Club since 2015 and a member of the management committee since 2016. I joined the club looking to meet new people and get myself out doing something productive. The team are fantastic as are the kids and I haven’t been able to tear myself away since. I’m not exactly crafty or sporty but just involved, I believe though I am best place behind the snack bar – if there’s food I there and it is a great opportunity to get chatting with the kids when they stop for a moment for a cup of water – the endless cups of water!
Hi I’m Dennis, I’ve been a volunteer at The Tilehurst Junior Youth Club since September 2016 making me one of the newbies :-). You can find me most of the time in the hall, helping to keep the children entertained and have fun. I’m an easy-going person and like to help.
